Rúben Amorim is hoping to raise over £100 million in sales as Rasmus Højlund closes in on a move away from Manchester United.
Rasmus Højlund’s position at Manchester United is increasingly under threat after the club confirmed the signing of Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig.
Højlund has struggled to prove himself as a reliable scorer at Old Trafford, managing 26 goals across 95 appearances under Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Rúben Amorim.
Though he has shown flashes of quality, his inconsistency and repeated goal droughts have pushed Amorim to turn to a striker of similar age but with greater top-level experience.
United spent £72 million to bring Højlund in back in 2023, but with his performances failing to match that investment, the club are now planning to move him on this summer.
Højlund’s United career is over, says Romano
With Højlund being closely linked with a move to AC Milan, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the player’s United career is now “definitely over” after being left out of the squad to play against Arsenal.
This follows on from the banishment of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Marcus Rashford, and Antony, making Højlund the sixth player to have his Old Trafford career come to an end this summer.
According to reports from Italy, Højlund has requested that all parties ensure that if he is to leave United this summer, it must be on a permanent deal or a transfer that guarantees his future is not in doubt next summer as well.
Milan and United have been in discussions that could see them pay a £5 million loan fee for the player this summer, pay his wage package, and retain the right to sign him for £39 million in June 2026.
Amorim could see as much as £135m this summer
While United are yet to make any significant sales as Rashford’s move to Barcelona remains a loan deal for now, Amorim could find himself holding onto substantial funding in the final few weeks of the window.
In addition to Højlund’s potential move to Italy, AS Roma are in talks with United about a double transfer involving Sancho and Malacia. These three combined moves could see the club secure as much as £70 million.
As for the pending exits of Garnacho and Antony, this could raise a further £65 million, bringing Amorim’s possible transfer total to in excess of £135 million.
Garnacho is keen to secure a move to Chelsea, which is likely to materialise for between £30-40 million. Meanwhile, United also values Antony at around £35 million, amid a host of suitors joining the race for the Brazilian.
Although the latter has his heart set on a move back to Real Betis this summer, the La Liga side are only holding out for another loan move. United have demanded that Antony instead accept one of the many other offers on the table, as they want him to head off permanently.
