Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a U-turn by Rasmus Højlund, as the Danish striker has revised his thoughts on a move to AC Milan.
After a poor season on all fronts, Manchester United turned their attentions to the summer transfer window in an attempt to eradicate their previous goal-scoring concerns.
The Red Devils have struggled for goals since the arrival of Ruben Amorim, only mustering 44 in the Premier League last season.
Out of these 44, only four were scored by striker Rasmus Højlund, which has forced United to enter the market for a new attacker to spearhead their side.
Having already acquired Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to improve the front line, the Red Devils pursued Benjamin Sesko to complete a brand new front three. Now that Sesko has signed, Højlund’s future has been called into question.
Højlund opens doors to AC Milan
Now that the Danish forward has been replaced, his time at United could be almost over. United opened the doors to Højlund’s exit, but they have struggled to find any suitors as of yet, mainly due to the 22-year-old’s persistence to stay.
This could be due to change, however, with new reports from football insider Fabrizio Romano claiming that the 2003-born forward is ‘opening doors’ to a move to AC Milan.
In a post on X, Romano stated that talks are ongoing on the player side to discuss the Italian side’s project, as ‘Højlund is opening doors to AC Milan.’
The post also explained that there will be a loan fee of £5.1 million, as well as an option to buy for £39 million. The Dane’s salary would also be covered.
United’s headache due to end?
It has been no secret that United’s main issue in this transfer window has been their difficulty in offloading their want-away stars, more specifically, their forwards.
Having secured a loan move for Marcus Rashford to Barcelona, United have turned their attentions to offloading Højlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Jadon Sancho.
With under three weeks left in the window, this progress on the Højlund front will be very well received by the Red Devils as they prepare for the new Premier League season.
United may also be optimistic that Garnacho could join Chelsea permanently before the deadline, which would further help to solve Amorim’s headache.
