Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool are in advanced talks for one of Manchester United’s summer transfer targets as they look to secure the £30 million star.
Manchester United are aiming to secure a number of fresh talents this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to completely rebuild their squad this summer.
The club are looking to bring in players who are more capable of handling the Premier League’s physicality, with United targeting those with English experience, such as Matheus Cunha, Liam Delap, and Bryan Mbeumo.
Aside from the front line, United are also looking into signing new midfielders as well as defensive reinforcements.
With Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation being a system that requires hard-working players on the flanks, there have also been rumours that United may be looking for a new right wing-back this summer.
Liverpool advancing in talks for United target
Earlier this year, it was detailed that United had entered into talks surrounding the possibility of signing Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong this summer.
However, with United being one of several Premier League sides interested in the Dutch star, Liverpool have now got the edge on signing the 2023/24 Bundesliga title winner.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arne Slot’s club are now advancing in talks to sign the 24-year-old who looks set to become Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement at Anfield amid the latter’s move to Real Madrid.
Liverpool are said to have approached Leverkusen regarding creating a payment structure for Frimpong’s release clause of just under £30 million, with the player keen to join the newly-crowned Premier League champions.
Amorim to consider Amad U-turn
In the early weeks of Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford, Amorim used Amad as a wing-back on the right flank, only moving him further forward into the front three during the latter months prior to the player’s injury.
Amad was fantastic in the position, showing himself to be a hard-working defender while continuing to have an impact in the final third, with a highlight being a 15-minute hat-trick against Southampton from the position in a 3-1 win earlier this year.
United were initially looking to sign Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP this summer as a fresh option in the position, but with the Portuguese starlet now signing for Chelsea instead, Amorim is reportedly considering keeping Amad as a right wing-back at the club next season.
Amid United’s relatively precarious financial situation, the club will be looking to be as smart as they can concerning summer transfer funding. If Amorim were to consider Amad a wing-back option rather than a part of the front three, they could spend money to strengthen elsewhere instead.
