Fabrizio Romano has shed light on a new transfer rumour surrounding Alejandro Garnacho’s potential exit from Manchester United.

Manchester United might be poised to sell Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea before the January transfer window closes.

The Red Devils are reportedly seeking funds to support manager Ruben Amorim in making new signings, with a primary focus on facilitating squad adjustments through loan deals.

Antony is expected to join Real Betis on a temporary basis, while Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia are also potential loan candidates to create more flexibility within the team.

However, Garnacho stands out as a player who could be sold permanently due to his significant market value.

The club is reportedly seeking a fee in the range of £60-75 million for the 20-year-old winger, which could provide a major boost to Old Trafford’s financial situation.

Surprise report claims potential Garnacho swap deal with Nkunku

An extremely surprising report emerged on Friday evening which suggested that Garnacho could be involved in a potential swap deal with Christopher Nkunku.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed that it is something the two clubs have discussed, with United previously holding interest in the French international.

However, one of the main reasons why Garnacho may be sold is to help the financial situation at the club and a swap deal–unless there was an additional fee involved–would not do that.

Nkunku also isn’t the calibre of player that United need as a replacement. He’s been underwhelming at Stamford Bridge and has started just three Premier League games this term.

That led to many United fans sharing their fury over the potential deal, with one supporter labelling it as a “shocking” idea.

Fabrizio Romano clarifies Garnacho swap deal rumours

Fortunately for those United fans, Fabrizio Romano clarified the situation shortly afterwards on his social media accounts.

The Italian reporter explained that, in December, the two English clubs had discussed separate deals for Nkunku and Garnacho – not being part of a swap deal.

He also explained that while it could still happen, it is not concrete or advanced at the moment.

United fans will still not be best pleased at the idea of the club bringing in Nkunku, who would be an underwhelming replacement for Garnacho.

But they will be glad to know that a swap deal between the two players is not on the table as that would make little sense for a variety of reasons.

Garnacho’s value should be rising considering his age and form shown in the Premier League while Nkunku is much older at 27 and is yet to prove anything in England.

If the Reds were to move forward with that potential signing, it would have to be at a much lower cost than whatever they sell Garnacho for.
