Manchester United have already made a decision ahead of the January transfer window to solve one of the issues in Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Manchester United were highly active in the summer transfer market, completing four major signings as part of their squad overhaul.
Ruben Amorim strengthened his side with the arrivals of Senne Lammens, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško, while promising fullback Diego Leon also joined the squad. Altogether, the five acquisitions cost around £215 million.
On the other side, departures had an equally big impact, with several players leaving, three of them confirmed on deadline day.
Among the most notable exits were Jadon Sancho, Antony, Rasmus Højlund, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, who departed either permanently or on loan.
United have already made decision on January transfer
Despite the summer window only just closing, there is already talk about what will happen in the transfer windows next year.
In fact, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Reds are expected to sign a midfielder in the January window, although the exact level of the player is yet to be known.
“Man United maintain the idea to add one more player in midfield, it wasn’t possible this summer but Man United maintain the idea to do one more signing in the January transfer window,” the Italian report said on YouTube.
“It might be more, based on opportunities, injuries, the table and all of the rest. But a new midfielder is expected to join Manchester United in 2026.
“We will see if it’s going to be a top player like Baleba – it’s not going to be easy in January, but maybe for the summer – or if they find an opportunity.
“But for sure the idea to add one more midfielder to the squad is still there, it’s something that Man United will discuss in the next months.
Casemiro and Ugarte’s performances will influence decision
It isn’t entirely surprising that United are planning to bring a midfielder in when the January window comes around. Amorim wanted a signing in the engine room in the summer.
The performances of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte could influence the kind of player United try to sign, with that defensive role seeming to be a problem position for the Reds.
As Romano suggested, Baleba is probably an unrealistic target in January but United need more than one midfield signing over the next year.
Casemiro’s contract expires next summer and the club aren’t expected to offer him another deal, while the future of all other midfielders remain uncertain.
