Rasmus Højlund intends to stay at Manchester United this summer despite engaging in transfer talks with Inter Milan, sources have informed UtdDistrict.
One of Manchester United’s main problems last season was their lack of reliable goal scorers, with Rasmus Højlund struggling to consistently lead the line.
Signed from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 for £72 million, Højlund was immediately handed the role of first-choice striker, largely because of Anthony Martial’s ongoing injury issues.
Despite scoring 16 goals in all competitions that season, many United supporters were hoping for a significant step forward from the Danish forward. Instead, his performances declined sharply.
At times, particularly towards the end of the campaign, his form completely collapsed, with rumours swirling surrounding his future amid interest from Serie A clubs.
Sources: Højlund wants to stay at United this summer
In the last few days, reports have broken that Inter Milan have engaged in talks with Højlund about a potential move to the San Siro this summer.
After losing the Champions League final 5-0 against Paris St. Germain, Inter have reportedly identified the 22-year-old as a main option this summer, alongside Parma striker Ange-Yoan Bonny, amid their desire to sign two new forwards.
However, sources have informed UtdDistrict that Højlund has explicitly told his entourage that he would like to remain at United this summer and continue to fight for his place under Amorim.
While the player’s intentions are clear, it has been well documented that, if a suitable offer was to arrive for any player this summer, United would consider their sale.
United are acting fast in the summer window
After the club lost the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, it was confirmed that the club would not be playing Champions League football next season, which many thought would make the summer market harder to navigate.
Although the club’s funding has certainly taken a hit and United lost out on Liam Delap due to a lack of European football, this has not stopped Amorim’s side from acting swiftly.
United confirmed on Sunday afternoon that they had reached an agreement to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a £62.5 million fee. Reports have also emerged that, after engaging in talks with the club, Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo has chosen to join United.
The club are now expected to launch their first offer for the Cameroon international, with Brentford wanting around £50 million for the 25-year-old this summer.
