Ex-Premier League boss launches strong defence of Rúben Amorim as the ‘real culprit’ for Man Utd’s problems slammed

Former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp has launched a strong defence of Rúben Amorim as he reveals who is to blame for Manchester United’s struggles.

Rúben Amorim’s first few months in charge at Old Trafford have not gone according to plan, with the club sitting 15th in the Premier League table.

Although the side are knee-deep in competition for the Europa League title and securing Champions League qualification for next season, criticisms have been rife surrounding United.

There have been many theories as to why the English giants have struggled so much, with some blaming the head coach for being too drastic with his changes after taking over from Erik ten Hag, while others feel the players are not good enough.

Amorim has admitted that the side he controls is one of the worst in the club’s history, although his side has been hit with a string of injuries that have severely impacted their consistency.

Redknapp launches strong defence of Amorim

Harry Redknapp, who managed 642 Premier League fixtures with the likes of Tottenham, West Ham, and Queens Park Rangers, has launched a strong defence of Amorim, explaining that the real culprit to blame for United’s downfall is the recruitment across the last few seasons.

“I don’t think Ruben Amorim should be under extra pressure,” Redknapp told BetVictor. “I think the problem is that the players simply aren’t good enough and whoever went in there would have had an impossible job.

“You could put anybody in charge at Manchester United and it wouldn’t change anything because the players are not good enough.

“It’s the recruitment that’s to blame when things like this happen, not the manager. He can’t work with the tools he’s been given, and if they changed him for a new manager tomorrow, it wouldn’t make the slightest difference.

“It’s scary how far away they are from being a decent team at the moment – they need to get rid of and bring in so many players. Their recruitment has been shocking, they’ve wasted money, and now they’re in a position that’s going to take years for them to get out of.”

United’s recruitment will improve under Amorim

Many players within the United squad have been branded as not good enough to play for United. But, those who have so far been signed under United’s new recruitment team have fared better in their assessment.

Last summer, United brought in the likes of Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui, and Matthijs de Ligt, all of whom have been praised for their abilities despite United’s poor results of late.

Amorim has been open in noting that he feels his side is not physical enough compared to their Premier League rivals, and ahead of the summer window, United have been linked with a series of strong, fast, and tall players that would raise the physical presence of United tenfold if they join the club.

Those such as Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap have already proven themselves to be valuable Premier League assets, while others the club are linked with, like Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Johnathan Tah, would increase the side’s physical presence at the back.
