Ex-Manchester United defender pushes Kobbie Mainoo for ‘best fit’ Premier League loan

Former Manchester United defender, Danny Simpson, has pushed United youngster Kobbie Mainoo to go on loan to a certain Premier League side, claiming it to be his ‘best fit’.

On Monday night, Manchester United played out one of the most enthralling games of the Premier League season, as they drew 4-4 with AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

The Reds were dismal defensively, but managed to put on a show in an attacking sense, with Bruno Fernandes being at the forefront of everything positive for Ruben Amorim’s side.

The Portuguese magician notched a fantastic goal from a free-kick, as well as an assist for Casemiro, taking his tally up to five goals and seven assists for the league campaign.

Despite all the drama, one of the key talking points following the fixture was Kobbie Mainoo, who made a 30-minute cameo off the bench amid his brother’s off-pitch antics.

Simpson advocates for Mainoo loan

The English midfielder has been heavily restricted for minutes under Amorim in the 2025/26 campaign, and has only mustered 302 minutes in the league so far.

With a January loan move potentially on the cards for Mainoo, former United defender Danny Simpson has given his verdict as to which club should push for the youngster’s services.

Simpson said, via Man Utd News, “The negative is that there aren’t many games, so you can’t rotate as much. If Manchester United were in Europe, he’d be getting a lot more games.

“The United fans don’t want to lose him because he’s a local lad and a top player. A six-month loan in January would do him good, and could get him to get into the England squad. The key is what team he goes to.

Simpson’s ‘best fit’ claim

The former United right-back went on to give his verdict as to which club should sign Mainoo on loan, and claimed Brighton and Hove Albion to be his best potential fit.

“I think that Brighton, with the way they develop players, and the football they play, and what they expect from their players, would be the best fit for Mainoo.

“You’ve got Danny Welbeck there too, another Manchester boy who could help him. Brighton would be the place I’d pick for him.”

Brighton have built a reputation for being one of the best sides in Europe for nurturing the development of up-and-coming talents, so it may be an ideal move for Mainoo if he is keen on staying in England.
