Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has confirmed his ambitious plan to convince one of Manchester United’s exciting talents of an international switch.
Manchester United have several exciting prospects at the club and some of them are also shining for their national teams at youth level.
James Scanlon has even playing for the senior team at national level, making over 10 appearances for Gibraltar over the last year.
There are a few talents within the Academy who still have the option of different international teams to pick between as they approach the senior level, including exciting striker Gabriele Biancheri.
The 18-year-old striker scored 21 goals last season despite being out of action with injury for a period as well. He is an impressive goalscorer, finding himself in the right spot at the right time, and has had experience training with the first-team squad.
Biancheri has been representing Wales at youth level but is being chased by Italy, and now Canada, who he qualifies to play for through his mother.
Marsch confirms ambitious Biancheri plan
Wales boss Craig Bellamy had been getting a closer look at Biancheri during a warm-weather training camp recently but Canada have now made a major move towards convincing the United starlet of a switch.
According to MailSport, Canada are growing increasingly optimistic that they can win the race for Biancheri after manager Jesse Marsch called him into his senior squad for the 2025 Canadian Shield tournament which kicks off next month.
Marsch, formerly the manager of Leeds United, has confirmed his plans to try and convince Biancheri to pledge his allegiance to Canada.
“He’s a technically gifted player,” Marsch told OneSoccer recently. “I have talked to him about how he fits in with us and how I think he benefits from the experience of being with us.
“I think this will be good for Gabe to see overall what the experience is like and then to see how he fits in, because even he and his father asked, ‘Where do you see Gabe fitting in with your group?’
“I said to look, the striker position is competitive with us, but he’s still young and I think he could establish himself as a flexible player in the way we play, a little bit like how Jonathan David plays.”
Biancheri has unique trait
Biancheri has gone under the radar in the Academy despite his goalscoring excellence, partly because of the arrival of Chido Obi last summer.
The 18-year-old still is able to offer one rare ability that is often difficult to learn – how to score those scrappy goals inside the box.

A lot of his goals are one-touch finishes from in and around the six-yard area, but he is consistently able to find spaces inside the box to make those finishes.
Of course, it is a different game at first-team level, but that is one unique strength which could give Biancheri the upper-hand on some of his competition.
