Every free agent available this month, Manchester United fan favourite could provide ideal back-up

Manchester United could yet make another signing after securing five new first-team players for Rúben Amorim in the 2025 summer window.

Manchester United’s 2025 summer dealings were finalised with the £18 million capture of Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, considered one of Europe’s top young prospects between the posts.

The club’s total transfer expenditure sits at around £215 million, with performance-based clauses potentially pushing that figure past £240 million.

Lammens was joined by attacking recruits Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško, while 18-year-old left-back Diego Leon arrived earlier in July.

On the way out, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony were among those to depart, with Alejandro Garnacho’s £40 million switch to Chelsea standing out as the marquee exit.

Reguilón could be United’s best free agent bet

While the club have secured three attacking signings, a new goalkeeper, and a young left-back, there are certainly further gaps in the squad that would need to be filled.

The next obvious signing is a new midfielder. United are already light in the department, and with Casemiro sure to leave next summer and rumours swirling about the long-term futures of Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes, United want to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton next summer.

But another position that may need a short-term fix is left wing-back. While Leon’s signing provides potential, 20-year-old Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu is the only player with significant senior experience in the position.

One free agent available is Sergio Reguilón, who became a firm fan favourite during his six-month stint at the club for the first half of the 2023/24 campaign, and has been very open about his continued love for the club.

With Dorgu the only senior player on that flank and injury issues leaving Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martínez’s availability in doubt, the Spaniard could provide experience both for left wing-back and left centre-back within Amorim’s back line.

Reguilón is not the only free agent available for clubs to sign. As listed by Gianluca Di Marzio, there are a total of 60 players who are searching for new clubs, having seen their contracts expire earlier this summer.

Names include former Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Dele Alli, while ex-Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also looking for a new club.
