Everton reportedly want to sign one of Manchester United’s current players, although Rúben Amorim is due to hold talks about his future.
As the January transfer window swiftly approaches, decisions are expected to be made over the future of players in the Manchester United squad. United currently sit in seventh place with eighteen points after eleven games in the Premier League.
In the lead up to the January transfer window, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Aston Villa, who all sit within one point of United, are amongst the opponents that Ruben Amorim’s reds must face.
The loss of Benjamin Šeško due to his knee injury will prove costly in these critical league games. United will look to use the transfer window to prevent themselves from falling behind due to injury.
Everton are United’s next opponents and currently sit in thirteenth place. Everton have scored twelve goals this season, which is fewer than all the teams that sit above them in the league. They will need to utilise the January transfer window to enhance their offensive capabilities and move into the top half.
Everton eyeing Zirkzee transfer amid Amorim talks
Joshua Zirkzee’s future is to be a hot topic over the next few months as Šeško’s injury provides the perfect opportunity for him to break into the starting lineup.
Zirkzee could feature frequently in the Premier League, with the tight winter fixture list and AFCON absentees opening up space for him in the line-up, as Amorim is set to hold talks with the player in the coming days.
The twenty-four-year-old previously looked for a move away from Old Trafford due to his lack of game time, but the opportunities provided may see him change his mind. A talk with Amorim is much needed to settle the striker and focus on improving his form.
Everton want to sign Zirkzee, according to Sky’s Rob Dorsett, who has reported that the Toffees are prioritising a new striker in January.
Current Strikers Barry and Beto have had a rough start to the 2025/26 Premier League season with just the one goal between them despite both featuring in all eleven games.
Ex-United target Ivan Toney and Arsenal Striker Gabriel Jesus were also amongst the players that Everton have taken an interest in, but with Toney seemingly enjoying his time in Saudi Arabia and Jesus reportedly not interested in moving, Zirzkee seems to be a focus for Everton.
Lack of rotation could lead to huge problems with squad depth for United
Many United players are beginning to grow restless due to their lack of game time this season under Amorim. Kobbie Mainoo is among the players rumoured to be on the move away in January. Amorim wants players to fight for their place in the squad, but limited rotation could impact the squad depth.
Zirkzee has played just 82 minutes off the bench so far this season and has struggled to make an impact in this short time. Mainoo also hasn’t featured in a league starting lineup this season.

Academy signings Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi have both struggled to get into the lineup despite both featuring in the league last season, with Obi moving back down to the Under-21’s.
United faces risk squad depth issues as bench players seek a move, despite the Club’s relatively positive form. Amorim will have to solve these problems as injuries have had a huge impact on United’s seasons over the last few years, and they will need happy players to fall back on.
The next two months will prove crucial to Zirkzee’s United career, the opportunity to break into the lineup is there for him and we can only hope that he finds his form to boost United into the European spots.
