Everton have saw their proposed takeover collapse after The Friedkin Group pulled out of the deal, leaving Manchester United fans questioning their stance on Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Toffees suffered a blow when The Friedkin Group withdrew from the process on Thursday evening – the same night that United signed the world-class defensive talent Leny Yoro from Lille.

However, various reports have claimed that United remain interested in signing a second centre-back, with Jarrad Branthwaite and Matthijs de Ligt the main options.

The Everton defender has agreed personal terms with The Reds, who have seen two bids for the player immediately rejected by the Premier League side.

They have been holding firm on a substantial £70 million price tag for the 22-year-old, which is regarded as unreasonable by those at Old Trafford and is exactly why they moved onto signing Yoro.

Many United fans are now wondering whether anything will change in relation to Branthwaite after the failed takeover.

According to Everton journalist Giulia Bould, the failed takeover has not changed the club’s stance on the sale of Branthwaite.

It was claimed that the Toffees’ wider transfer plan remains the same, suggesting that their £70 million price tag for the defender remains.

The Guardian have also reported that Everton’s financial situation is not as threatening as it once was and, although the collapse of the takeover is a blow, it is thought the club are not at risk of going into administration.

They added that the departure of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa should alleviate Everton’s need to sell the highly-rated centre-back.
