European giant ‘won’t give up’ on Manchester United signing this summer after Ruben Amorim green light

With Manchester United looking to offload a number of players this summer, Marcus Rashford has seemingly found his next destination as he looks to get his career back on track.

Marcus Rashford’s near 20-year affiliation with Manchester United appears to be nearing its end, with manager Rúben Amorim reportedly deeming the forward surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

The Academy graduate, who has made 426 appearances for the club, scoring 138 goals and registering 77 assists, now looks set for a move away.

Rashford was loaned to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024/25 season following a fallout with Amorim over concerns regarding his effort in training. Despite performing well during his spell in Birmingham, Villa chose not to trigger the £40 million buy option.

With the green light from Amorim for a sale, Rashford is back on the market and expected to be available for a similar fee this summer.

Barcelona pushing for Rashford

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona for a number of weeks now, saying publicly in an interview that he’d love to play with Lamine Yamal.

As per SportWitness, the interest for a move from Rashford has seemingly been reciprocated by the Catalan club, as they claim that Barcelona won’t give up on a deal to sign the want-away Englishman.

After signing Joan Garcia and Nico Williams, Rashford is now considered one of the last players that Barcelona want to bring in and would consider him the ‘icing on the cake of a dream attack’.

Like Manchester United, in order to sign players like Rashford, Barcelona need to sell a number of players to help facilitate a potential move.

Make or break for Rashford

Despite being stacked when it comes to left wingers, Barcelona need cover for an aging Robert Lewandowski, who picked up a number of injuries last season.

Rashford is willing to lower his wages as he’s pushing for a loan deal to the Spanish giants in a hope to push on from his time in England and play himself back into form ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Despite United pushing for permanent sales of their want-away players, getting Rashford’s near £325,000-a-week off the books could force United to reconsider their stance, as it would save the club £17 million a year.

United will have to wait to part ways with Rashford, as Barcelona will only be able to move for him near the end of the window.
