Due to a lack of game time at the start of the season, one of Europe’s biggest sides are ‘maintaining contact’ with Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo.
Despite their recent victory over Sunderland, in which Manchester United put in a much-improved performance, there is still concern regarding the personnel within the United squad.
Ruben Amorim’s unorthodox 3-4-2-1 system has meant that many of United’s top talents have been forced to operate in roles that don’t benefit them, whilst some have fallen short of the starting XI entirely.
The likes of Bruno Fernandes and Amad have both had to operate in deeper roles than the ones they have been used to in the past, whilst Kobbie Mainoo has yet to start a Premier League fixture this season.
In the late stages of the summer transfer window, Mainoo requested a loan move which was subsequently denied, although one of Europe’s elite sides are still eyeing up the midfielder.
Napoli set sights on Mainoo
As reported by Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Napoli are maintaining contact with Mainoo’s entourage, which has left them in pole position for the Englishman’s services.
The report stated that, “A loan move is being considered as early as the January transfer window to give him more playing time and continue his development in a competitive environment.”
Having recently seen both Rasmus Højlund and Scott McTominay depart for the Naples side, it seems obvious that the Reds have an already-existing relationship with the Italian giants.
Mainoo will be hopeful that he can pick up some more minutes in a United shirt before the January window, but if nothing changes, then Napoli could present him with an ideal opportunity.
New lease of life for Mainoo
Whether it be in a United shirt or elsewhere, it really feels like the young Red Devil is desperate for a new lease of life in the early stages of his career.
Multiple times so far this season, Mainoo has showcased his ability in some impressive cameos off the bench, although despite this, his profile clearly isn’t deemed fit for what Amorim wants.

Unless Mainoo experiences a change of fortune under the Portuguese boss, he will likely continue to struggle for minutes. This is of course, unless Amorim gets axed in the near future, which is a possibility.
It would be a real shame if we were starved of the opportunity to watch more of what Mainoo can produce in a United shirt, but if push comes to shove, a loan move to Napoli could be more than fruitful.
