Casemiro was sent off at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon as Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in the Premier League.

Referee Andre Marriner dismissed the Brazilian midfielder in the 70th minute after a 22-man brawl took place after Antony was shoved into the advertising boards.

Some believe that the red card was harsh since Casemiro was not the worst offender, others think it was not smart of the 30-year-old to raise his hands and that he got what he deserved.

United manager Erik ten Hag’s overarching message, however, was that whilst his players need to remain disciplined, he is happy that they are willing to fight for each other.

“You can see this team stands for each other. There’s such a good spirit in this team,” he told reporters.

“They don’t accept when a player from us can be badly injured and that is the way that Antony got treated. This team sticks together.”

And the manager is right. This team was not only void of confidence last season; but also determination, fight and togetherness – that has all been on show under the management of the Dutchman.

Whether it is celebrating defensive togetherness or backing up your teammate who has been knocked off the side of the pitch, United have guts about them this season.

You do need to tame that aggression in moments, like on Saturday, but it’s something that will do the side a whole lot of good in the long term and, quite frankly, as a fan, it’s pleasing to see.

“Of course, you have to control your emotions but it’s really difficult in such moments,” added Ten Hag. “I see two teams fighting each other, I see two teams with players crossing the line but then one player is picked out and gets sent off. For me, that’s not right.”
