Erik ten Hag’s biggest reason for wanting Joshua Zirkzee at Manchester United revealed
Joshua Zirkzee has completed his move to Manchester United, and Erik ten Hag is keen to welcome the forward to the club.
Zirkzee, 23, completed his medical earlier this week and United announced the striker as their first summer signing on Sunday afternoon.
The Netherlands international will provide important support to Rasmus Højlund up front, but it has also been reported that the club view him as a versatile forward.
His national team coach, Ronald Koeman, explained this week that Zirkzee is “between a 9 and a 10” as a player.
A report from ad.nl has explained that this was a key reason for Erik ten Hag wanting the player, and persuading INEOS to make the move for the Bologna player
Højlund showed major promise during his debut campaign, scoring 16 goals in all competitions, and it was added that those at the club believe he will develop his game next season.
However, the Dutch manager insisted on having another option up front who was a different type of player, and Zirkzee was the player identified.
United’s new signing has already explained his style of play in a recent interview with Corriere della Sera.
“I want people to have fun when they come to see me. But more than individually, it’s better to impress the stadium as a team in the way we play.
Creativity is the best way to express yourself. Creativity at the service of the team is a lethal combination.”
Asked what his best attribute is, Zirkzee added: “Without a doubt, the gift is the technique: it is the way of showing everyone my essence. You say I’m spectacular? Well, I’m Dutch: this is the most correct definition.”
