Erik ten Hag could make two Man United position change permanent this season
Erik ten Hag could make two position changes at Manchester United permanent for this season.
The Reds will host Fulham on Friday in their Premier League opener for the new season. Various changes have been made at the club since their last league outing.
Dan Ashworth and Omar Berrada have assumed their roles as sporting director and chief executive, while Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff has undergone a major reshuffle.
Four signings for the first-team squad have also been made, with Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui joining the club.
The United boss could also be set to make a couple of changes to players’ positions for the coming season for different reasons.
First of all, Mazraoui could be used as a left-back frequently in the coming months. Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are unavailable heading into the season, and there is uncertainty about whether they can stay fit.
The Moroccon international could start on the left side of defence in the opening game against Fulham to allow Diogo Dalot to stay on the right side.
The 26-year-old often played in the position for Bayern Munich last season and is strong with his weak foot – something that Ten Hag values if a player is playing on their ‘wrong’ side.
Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho could prove himself to be incredibly useful on the right wing this term.
He excelled when he came on in the position last time out in the Community Shield and has seemed to look more comfortable from that flank than the left in the last year.
Of course, Marcus Rashford’s form could determine this. If the Englishman is not performing, it is likely that Garnacho is stationed on the left.
However, if he manages to find his goalscoring boots, Garnacho could continue to develop on that right wing alongside Amad Diallo, who can also play centrally.
