Erik ten Hag told to change Bruno Fernandes’ role at Manchester United
Erik ten Hag has been told he must change Bruno Fernandes’ role at Manchester United in order to benefit his Old Trafford squad.
Bruno Fernandes has been one of the greatest signings for Manchester United across the last decade – his output and status as club captain speaks for themselves.
This season, however, his numbers and performances have been a little more inconsistent, with the player having to cover for Antony and Jadon Sancho on the right wing recently and therefore unable to operate in his best space as a central attacking midfielder.

Fernandes’ role this season has been somewhat restricted due to this, and former United defender Paul Parker has explained that Ten Hag should instead give Fernandes a role akin to what Sir Alex Ferguson gave Eric Cantona.
“When Cantona came to Manchester United we were told by Sir Alex Ferguson to give Cantona the ball which is an easy thing to do,” he told mybettingsites.
“It seems like the players would rather do something with the ball themselves to make their own story rather than play for the team.
“Fernandes can do ridiculous things and lose his head, but it’s because he’s frustrated. He believes in his ability which isn’t a bad thing.
“I think you’ve got to give him a free role or get him in a position that will be beneficial to him and the team and I don’t think the hag has figured it out.”
