Manchester United fans have been left fuming after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ideal replacement for Erik ten Hag was revealed, should INEOS decide to ditch the Dutchman as Old Trafford manager.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to have a bid for 25% of Manchester United accepted by the Glazer family, where the INEOS founder will gain all sporting control of the Old Trafford club.

This move represents a significant change in the structure of the club as the Glazers are conceding significant amounts of control to Ratcliffe – it is expected that the British billionaire will use this stake to eventually leverage a full takeover of United in the next few years.

Although it is thought that Ten Hag’s position is currently under no threat and Ratcliffe’s group are admirers of his work, that does not mean that they don’t have others in mind who they feel would also be a good fit for United manager.

And, according to Alan Nixon, this comes in the form of ex-Chelsea and Brighton manager, Graham Potter.

Ratcliffe’s second in command, Sir Dave Brailsford, who the information explains is set to be the football face of the United takeover, is a fan of Potter and wanted him at French side Nice – the other club that INEOS owns.

This news has angered Manchester United fans, who feel that Potter would be a step back from Ten Hag.

Potter is currently waiting to see if Serie A side Napoli will call him about their managerial job, but is also said to be hoping that he enters discussions about Manchester United – although the chances of Ten Hag leaving Old Trafford any time soon are slim to none.
