Erik ten Hag stresses that Man United star must have ‘right attitude’ to replicate heroic form
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has asserted that Marcus Rashford can replicate last year’s form if he has the right attitude for it.
Marcus Rashford was Manchester United‘s leading goal scorer last season. The Englishman scored 16 goals in the league last season and will most probably spearhead United’s attack once again this season.
Having played for over 350 times for the Red Devils, the 25-year-old has over 190 goals and assists for the club.
Over the years, Rashford has been used anywhere in the front three. The pacey winger scored around 30 goals in the 2022/23 season, his best goal-scoring season since making his debut in 2016.
Ahead of their friendly match against Wrexham in California, manager Erik Ten Hag sat for the press conference and spoke about numerous issues.
When asked about what he expects from Rashford and that can he replicate last season’s form, Ten Hag said that if United’s No. 10 grows up the “right attitude” he can even score up to 25 goals.
“When his attitude is right, then he will do that. It’s not easy and the team has to play well to put him in the right position.”
The Dutchman also emphasized on the rest of the team rising to the occasion too, to aid Rashford in getting those balls in the net. He also heaped praise on Rashford and highlighted his ability to score goals with both of his feet.
“And when the team is playing well – so we’ll say when we keep the rules and principles in our way of playing, and the resulting attitude is right and he puts himself in the right position – he will finish because he has great abilities when he’s in the box, he’s clinical and he’s ruthless.
“And he scores goals with his right, with his left and with his head.”
With Wout Weghorst leaving the club after his loan spell ended, Anthony Martial remains the only No. 9 in United’s team. However, in the last few matches, Ten Hag has deployed Jadon Sancho as a false-nine.
Manchester United are, however, in the market, desperately looking for a striker this season. Rasmus Hojlund, is the no. 1 target as reported by various sources and Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has claimed that Atalanta expects United to submit an official bid by this week.
