Erik ten Hag slams brutal criticism of Man United star, he calls it “so stupid”
Erik ten Hag has slammed one pundit’s brutal criticism of a Manchester United star after the latest Brighton defeat.
Manchester United were defeated 2-1 by Brighton in their second Premier League match of the season last weekend.
Marcus Rashford was one of many players criticised after the game, but Alan Shearer focused on the 26-year-old forward.
Speaking on Match Of The Day after the game, he said: “On today’s evidence and in the game against Fulham, he’s not been anywhere near good enough.
“He’s not a youngster anymore. He has to understand the position and look across the pitch when you can see the whole thing; you shouldn’t be offside then.”
Erik ten Hag was asked about Rashford’s confidence going into the Liverpool game. He has scored seven times against United’s biggest rivals.
However, it seems like it is only a matter of time before he loses his spot in the lineup unless he turns his form around. Alejandro Garnacho is looking sharp since returning from the Copa America in the summer.
In any event, the United boss will continue to back his player and spoke about the criticism he has received from the likes of Shearer.
“Everyone gets criticism from you guys; it doesn’t matter what we are doing, whether we are winning or losing. If I take a player off, it’s a conclusion I am not happy with him.
“I am very happy with him. In pre-season, against Fulham and against Brighton. It was not why I took him off because his performances or his level was not right.
“No, we have to rotate, and we have good players on the bench as well, and we have good energy to win the game, and there will be a rotation, and if there is a conclusion, the player is not performing.
“It can be sometimes, but not in this case. So stupid analysis from the pundit.”
