Erik ten Hag has revealed a Manchester United lineup hint for the Community Shield against Manchester City this weekend.

The Reds travel to Wembley ahead of the new Premier League season and will certainly be keen to beat Pep Guardiola’s side once again at the national stadium.

Unfortunately, Erik ten Hag needs to deal with several injuries heading into this game. Leny Yoro and Rasmus Højlund suffered long-term layoffs during pre-season.

Højlund being unavailable made it seem that new signing Joshua Zirkzee would get the opportunity to start against City.

The Dutch international has not yet played for the club since his move from Bologna last month due to his participation at Euro 2024.

While the United boss has explained how “hungry” Zirkzee is ahead of his debut campaign for the club, he warned that the 23-year-old has not been in team training for more than two days.

This suggests that Zirkzee will make his debut from the bench rather than starting the game, with Ten Hag having one eye on the Premier League opener against Fulham.

“Yeah, I think he can [feature]; he is really hungry to do this because he is looking forward, and he is also very excited to be coming into the Premier League,” Ten Hag told club media.

“To come to Manchester United and on his first occasion go to Wembley, of course that will highly motivate him, that’s for sure.

“But he is also short in training, he had a break, he trained individually but he has now had a couple of days in the team training.”

There are alternative options that Ten Hag could use up front, such as Marcus Rashford. The more likely setup is using Jadon Sancho as a false-nine.

Rashford and Amad Diallo are expected to occupy the flanks, while Bruno Fernandes also returns to the lineup.
