Erik ten Hag provides worrying Man Utd injury update as Luke Shaw and Antony forced off vs Chelsea
Erik ten Hag has provided a worrying injury update following Manchester United’s 4-1 victory against Chelsea.
The Reds secured Champions League football for next season as Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford got onto the scoresheet against the underwhelming visiting side.
In the first half, Ten Hag was forced into a change after Antony was stretchered off the pitch following a collision with Trevoh Chalobah on 24 minutes. Rashford replaced the Brazilian and went on to score his 30th goal of the season.
Luke Shaw was then substituted at the break, with Tyrell Malacia coming into the frame. The Englishman had a ‘slight back injury’ according to Sky Sports.
The United boss does not usually give away much information when discussing injuries straight after a game – which is what makes his comments on Antony’s knock worrying.
“We have to wait. With Antony, it looks serious but we don’t know what it is,” he stated when speaking to club media. “With Shaw, we have to wait a bit as well. We’ll know more tomorrow.”
United will be travelling to Wembley to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final next weekend as they prepare to challenge the treble-chasing side in order to complete a domestic cup double of their own.
Speaking on the upcoming final, Ten Hag added: “Next week is going to be big and we will do everything in our power. We have to get well prepared and give ourselves the best chance to get the cup. Sunday, let’s focus on that, next week, and then we’ll work in the background for next season.”
