Erik ten Hag has provided the latest news on Diogo Dalot’s injury after he was substituted in the first half in Manchester United’s 3-0 win against Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

The right-back was replaced by his counterpart Aaron Wan-Bissaka after 34 minutes on Tuesday evening.

It comes after he recently returned from the sidelines after suffering an injury at the World Cup with Portugal.

“I can’t tell that much,” Ten Hag said. “We have seen Diogo come off but it was a precaution and we have to see how it develops in the coming hours and make a clear decision.”

The boss will be hoping to have the defender back and ready for the Manchester Derby on the weekend.

United could close the gap between them and Manchester City to just one point should they win on Saturday afternoon.

The cup victory was The Reds’ eighth win in a row and Ten Hag’s 20th as manager of the club. He is the quickest to ever reach that feat at the Old Trafford helm.

Dalot spoke about the importance of silverware to the club ahead of the game.

He said: “Manchester United is about winning trophies. It is about competing and fighting in every trophy that we are in. And this Carabao is not smaller than a Champions League, than a Europa League. Obviously, it’s different dimensions but, for us, it’s a trophy and we want to win it.

“I think it has to be an obsession for us to win trophies, to win things. I think you guys [the fans] feel even more than me, you are here longer than me, that we have to win.”
