Erik ten Hag provides latest injury update on Diogo Dalot as Man United full-back returns to training
Erik ten Hag has suggested that Diogo Dalot could return to the Manchester United squad to face Crystal Palace on Saturday after returning to training this week.
Dalot, 24, has been out of action in recent weeks with an injury he picked up against Charlton Athletic at the start of January.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has impressed in his place in the meantime. Being one of four players nominated for the club’s Player of the Month award that Marcus Rashford eventually won.
The return of the Portuguese will still come as a massive bonus for Ten Hag and his squad. He was one of the best performers for the side before the World Cup break.
He was pictured in training this week and could feature in the squad that hosts The Eagles at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
“I think Diogo is doing quite well,” Ten Hag told club media. “In the last couple of days, he has been back in the team training and [if] his training today goes well, he can also return to the squad tomorrow.”
Dalot started every single game for United until the mid-season break and impressed for Portugal at the World Cup.
Another player that could be introduced to the matchday squad is new midfielder Marcel Sabitzer. United signed the Austrian on loan from Bayern Munich on deadline day after the severity of Christian Eriksen’s ankle injury was discovered.
The midfielder was present at Old Trafford when United booked their place in the Carabao Cup final on Wednesday but had to watch from the stands because his visa process had not been completed.
Now, he has all the paperwork sorted, has been included in United’s updated squad lists for the Premier League and Europa League, and could be set for his debut.
“He did only one session but you can see he’s a very fit player,” added Ten Hag on United’s latest signing. “I didn’t have a different expectation, he’s coming from Bayern Munich. German [clubs] they are always [about] fitness, [it’s] always good. So, he is [fit]. So, I think he is ready to play.
“I think he’s a really smart player. I think we gave him some guidance but I think he knows what to do, he knows the job, so he could do [start].”
