Luke Shaw was substituted due to injury in the first half of Manchester United’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Brentford on Wednesday evening.

Luke Shaw’s substitution through injury was the only real sour note from Manchester United’s victory over Brentford at Old Trafford.

It was Marcus Rashford’s 28th-minute strike that ultimately separated the two sides on Wednesday evening as Erik ten Hag’s men returned to the Champions League spots, leapfrogging Tottenham in the table.

It was a performance that can help the side start to regain confidence after picking up only one league point from a possible nine ahead of the tie.

The fixture also saw United keep yet another clean sheet at Old Trafford – an impressive home record in which Luke Shaw has played a significant part this season.

Shaw was substituted in the 38th minute and immediately left for the dressing room after a short conversation with Ten Hag on the sidelines, with many pointing out that he was holding his hamstring as he walked toward the tunnel.

Speaking after the victory, Erik ten Hag explained that the right diagnosis will not be available until 24 hours after the tie.

“In this moment I can’t give anything about it. We have to wait 24 hours to make the right diagnosis,” he told MUTV after the game.

Tyrell Malacia was the man who came on to replace Shaw for the remainder of the tie and played admirably on the left flank, combining well with Jadon Sancho and Rashford.

“He is [full of confidence],” Ten Hag explained when asked about how Rashford is currently feeling. “But he has to be ready to get in those positions, therefore he needs energy and focus and he has to bring it every game.”

Ten Hag also stated that he completely believes his squad can perform to this level away from home too, but admitted that work still must be done to achieve that goal.

“We can do it,” he said. “We can bring this performance and now we have to also bring it in the away games. We have to work on our character and personality to do it.”
