Erik ten Hag praises three Man United stars who delivered “great performances” vs Southampton
Erik ten Hag has praised three Manchester United players who delivered ‘great performances’ against Southampton in their 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon.
Erik ten Hag made two changes to Manchester United’s starting lineup for their Premier League match against Southampton, with Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen stepping in for Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro.
Southampton began the game strongly, putting United under pressure and forcing several saves from André Onana.
The first key moment came when Diogo Dalot fouled Tyler Dibling inside the penalty area, but Onana saved the penalty.
Shortly after, Matthijs de Ligt headed in a Bruno Fernandes cross for his first goal at the club, and Marcus Rashford quickly added a second, firing a low shot past Aaron Ramsdale.
United stayed in control throughout the second half. Joshua Zirkzee missed a chance to score, but substitute Alejandro Garnacho wrapped up the 3-0 win with a late goal.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Ten Hag was pleased with the performances of several players who have faced criticism in recent weeks.
De Ligt had a disappointing international break with the Netherlands. He was slammed for making a mistake that led to a goal.
Rashford and Onana have also received a lot of criticism for their performances over the last months. Still, both put in fine displays at St Mary’s Stadium and contributed directly to the win.
“They are good characters, and they work very hard. When the team is playing well, and they contribute, for sure they can deliver great performances,” replied Ten Hag when asked about the trio by club media.
“We have to do it as a team, and sometimes, these individuals can really be in the spotlight.”
Asked further about De Ligt’s start to life at Old Trafford, Ten Hag said: “I’m not surprised. At this moment he is not fit, he’s not at 100% speed. He needs the games to go up to it.
“We see glimpses now, and once he’s there, he will do much better. We are happy with him and especially today with his game.”
