Erik ten Hag is said to have been “pivotal” in two changes that Manchester United fans have been asking for in recent months.

Manchester United are set to be signing a new goalkeeper this summer as David de Gea‘s contract has expired – a change that many fans have been asking for.

Although talks are continuing between the player and the club to resolve the Spaniard’s future, Erik ten Hag is hunting for a new No. 1 ahead of next season.

It is said that the club are very close to agreeing on the signing of Inter Milan’s André Onana, with it being claimed that personal terms will not be a problem and both clubs keen to make sure a deal is agreed.

Although a deal was agreed between De Gea and United for new terms, the club then retracted their offer with a few weeks left on his contract.

According to Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell, speaking on the Talk of the Devils podcast, Erik ten Hag was “pivotal” in this decision and why the club are now pursuing Andre Onana for the No. 1 spot.

Not only this but Ten Hag is also said to have played a significant role in the signing of Mason Mount, with many fans calling for the club to add quality depth to their midfield ranks.

After it became clear that Mount was leaving Chelsea this summer, he had many offers on the table – and Whitwell explained that it was Ten Hag speaking to Mount that made him choose United over the offers he had received from Liverpool and Arsenal.
