“Even better…” Erik ten Hag explains why he’s surprised by new Manchester United signing
Erik ten Hag recently explained why he was surprised by one of Manchester United’s new signings following fantastic performances.
Manchester United’s 2024 summer transfer window was notably active, with Erik ten Hag securing five new first-team signings: Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte. These additions aimed to bolster the squad’s depth and address key areas of need.
The club also generated significant funds through player sales, totaling over £120 million. High-profile departures included Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

In a recent interview, Ten Hag admitted that new signing Mazraoui has impressed him, explaining that he’s now an “even better player” than when the pair worked together at Ajax.
“I know, let’s say I knew, how good a player he is, and I think he improved even a lot from his period in Germany. And he’s even a better player than I had in Ajax,” he told club media.
“His development as a player and as a person is tremendous and impressive. So I hope that he keeps this process going.”
Mazraoui recently explained that Ten Hag was a big draw for him to join Manchester United from Bayern Munich.
“Of course, it’s a big factor,” he said in a recent press conference. “Always, if you decide to go to another club, you have to decide if the manager and his way of seeing football fits into your way of playing football.
“I knew him already, I knew his way of seeing the game and his style really fits into how I play and that’s really a big factor. That you work beforehand with him also makes it easier. I knew what he expected from me and he knows it from my side as well.
“Seeing those things makes it easier, but eventually it’s what I said, it was not the only factor why I came to this big club.”
