Erik ten Hag: Man Utd manager provides ‘definitely’ update on Christian Eriksen’s injury
Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Christian Eriksen will return to action for Manchester United this season after a serious injury setback in January.
The creative midfielder was excelling alongside Casemiro in United’s midfield in the first half of the campaign.
He had two goals and nine assists to his name up until a reckless challenge from Reading’s Andy Carroll led to a serious outlay on the sidelines.
Fred has come into the side and impressed next to his Brazilian teammate, however, Ten Hag’s side have lost some of their progressive control in games.
Eriksen was on the pitch at Wembley last month celebrating the Carabao Cup victory alongside his United teammates in a recovery boot.
Ten Hag has explained that the Dane’s recovery is going well and that he will ‘definitely’ return to action this season, but an exact date has not been set for his return.
“I think he will play, definitely,” answered Ten Hag when asked whether he will appear this season. “I cannot tell now when expectation [is to return], but I think his progress in the rehab is OK, it’s going according to plan.
“So we will definitely see him, but not until after the international break.
“His main focus right now is to get back as soon as possible, because we need all of the players.”
Eriksen’s return to the side will be a major boost in the latter stages of the season as United aim to add to their silverware collection.
They are in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and are favourites against Fulham in that upcoming clash. Meanwhile, their recent 4-1 win against Real Betis in the first leg of their knockout clash puts them in a favourable position to progress to the Europa League quarter-finals.
