Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has hailed Erik ten Hag for “doing a brilliant job” despite increasing pressure on the Dutchman.

Manchester United are struggling in 14th place in the Premier League, with mounting pressure on Erik ten Hag as fans increasingly call for his dismissal.

The team has managed only two victories in their last six outings— a commanding 7-0 win over Barnsley from League One, and a 3-0 victory over Southampton that might have ended differently had André Onana not saved a pivotal penalty.

Draws against FC Twente and FC Porto, along with demoralising 3-0 home losses to Liverpool and Tottenham, have led to growing concerns over Ten Hag’s leadership. Still, a recent draw with Aston Villa has provided him with a brief reprieve.

With the Dutch manager under fire from all angles, former United boss David Moyes, who managed the club for ten months following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, has issued a statement of support.

“I think he’s doing a brilliant job,” Moyes told the BBC. “I think he’s shown brilliant resilience in the situation that he’s in, and I think he should be credited for how well he’s conducted himself.

“As far as I know, I don’t see him ducking any questions or any media interviews that you people [the media] put forward to him.

“I think you have to give him great credit for that but it’s a job that is going to attract immense pressure, people talking, so I have to say that I think he’s doing a brilliant job.”

While the Scotsman, most recently in charge of West Ham, is backing Ten Hag, many fans have been disappointed at the way Ten Hag has handled fixtures.

Many supporters have pointed to his perplexing substitution decisions as a major issue. In the Porto match, he controversially removed Marcus Rashford at half-time, despite the winger being United’s most effective attacking player, and later opted to change centre-backs when a goal was needed.

Further questionable choices, such as taking Joshua Zirkzee off against Crystal Palace, have also been criticised. Adding to the frustration, Alejandro Garnacho was played through a knee injury, which has since ruled him out of Argentina’s recent international fixtures.
