Ahead of Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League tie against Brentford, Erik ten Hag issued a subtle line-up hint for the tie.

Manchester United will return to Premier League action following the international break, as Erik ten Hag takes stock of his squad ahead of a crucial encounter with Brentford.

The 2024/25 season has started poorly for United, who are 14th in the Premier League and have drawn both of their Europa League matches so far.

This lacklustre form has fueled speculation about Ten Hag’s future, with many supporters expecting the club to announce his departure last week.

However, the draw against Aston Villa has seemingly bought Ten Hag more time, as the club’s leadership opted to hold off on any drastic decisions. Over the next few days, Ten Hag will assess his team before naming his lineup for the Brentford game.

Ten Hag hints at XI change

Speaking to reporters in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, Ten Hag was asked about Christian Eriksen’s form. So far this season, Eriksen has scored three goals and provided three assists.

Ten Hag replied by referencing Eriksen’s partnership with Kobbie Mainoo, who has been ruled out of the next few fixtures with a hamstring problem.

“Lately, he proved himself within the team with Kobbie and proved they can be a good couple,” Ten Hag said of the Danish international captain.

“He’s had a good season so far and is important for the team, linking key passes, being creative, composed and calm. I’m very happy with his performances.”

With Mainoo injured and Manuel Ugarte’s fitness still unconfirmed following a thigh problem earlier this week, Ten Hag may have hinted that Eriksen will continue in a midfield role.

The Dutch manager may have to revert to his favoured midfield trio of Eriksen, Casemiro, and Bruno Fernandes against Brentford. This midfield combination worked brilliantly for him during his opening six months as manager.
