Erik ten Hag has told INEOS two things that any new Manchester United signing would need as we enter the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

The Reds have made two signings so far this summer but are in desperate need of further additions before the end-of-month deadline.

Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee have entered the building, but the former has suffered an unfortunate injury setback during pre-season.

United confirmed that the defender will be unavailable for around three months after a foot injury in a friendly game against Arsenal. Rasmus Højlund also suffered an injury in that game.

Yet, United boss Erik ten Hag is extremely confident that Yoro will be a success and help the club win silverware. His maturity at such a young age is highlighted as a key reason for his signing.

“One of the reasons we signed him. Very mature, great personality. [He’s] dealing with it, looking forward, be bright and positive. He’s already started his rehab,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports.

“A fire is burning there. As I say, for his age, he is already very mature and very balanced. He doesn’t get distracted, he knows what he wants and where he wants to go.

“I’m sure he will be returning as soon as possible to help the team win games and trophies.”

This is something that the United boss wants in all of the signings at Old Trafford. While the likes of Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox are now important in the recruitment process, Ten Hag reiterates the importance of two things for every player.

“You need heart, and you need the head,” he continued. “In football, both are very important.

“We need both things right to form a team. In the team, you need different skill sets, but personality, character, and mentality are very important to construct a winning team.”
