Erik ten Hag gives indication to Facundo Pellistri’s Man United future amid potential January loan
Ahead of his side’s FA Cup tie with Reading, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has given a subtle suggestion as to how he views Facundo Pellistri’s immediate future.
The Dutchman was answering questions in his press conference ahead of Manchester United‘s Saturday evening fixture against Reading.
When asked whether the Uruguayan would be loaned out for the remainder of the season, Ten Hag answered, “We put on Pellistri [on Wednesday], that is a signal.”
This suggests that the emerging talent is considered to be within the manager’s plans for the remainder of the season, having impressed in a handful of cameos so far this campaign.
With United already in the middle of a challenging fixture schedule, Pellistri could see an opportunity to get more senior minutes under his belt against Reading, with this likely to come from the bench.
Should the winger remain at the club for the remainder of the season, he will have a hard-pressed battle for consistent game time, with Erik ten Hag already spoilt for options on either wing.
The emergence of his youth teammate, Alejandro Garnacho, further limits the opportunities for Pellistri, with Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho all likely to be further ahead of the Uruguayan in the pecking order.
One man that may not be standing in the way of Pellistri in the near future is Anthony Elanga, who is being heavily linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford for the second half of the current campaign.
With the window due to shut in the UK next week, any moves for the young star will have to be conducted sooner rather than later.
