Erik ten Hag has explained that he hopes four of Manchester United’s injured stars will return for the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

United currently sit eighth in the Premier League table and the Wembley final offers Ten Hag one last chance of making the season a success.

With the game taking place on 25 May, there is time for the injured players to return to action for the game, where United are undoubtedly the underdogs.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s clash against Arsenal, Ten Hag revealed that four players could be returning ahead of the cup final.

Ten Hag said that he still hopes that Lisandro Martinez, Raphaël Varane, Victor Lindelöf and Luke Shaw could return to face Pep Guardiola’s side.

Martínez returned to first-team training this week, and the manager added that the Argentine asked to play against Arsenal this weekend.

Ten Hag will instead take things slowly with the 26-year-old, who has been plagued with injuries this season.

“Yesterday, Licha [Lisandro Martinez] came to me and wanted to play on Sunday against Arsenal but he’s not ready yet, he needs a little bit more time to go through the process, but he is so desperate,” explained Ten Hag.

Ten Hag also clarified that Shaw has suffered a setback in his recovery, but he could still be one to return before the FA Cup final.

Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay have all returned to training, while Mason Mount has suffered another injury.
