Erik ten Hag in ‘constant contact’ with Manchester United target, major hurdle is overcome

Erik ten Hag has reportedly been in constant contact with one Manchester United target in recent weeks, and it seems that the main hurdle to completing the deal has been overcome.

The Reds are looking to make signings in the coming weeks after the addition of Dan Ashworth as sporting director was confirmed.

It has been reported that the two main priorities for INEOS are centre-back and centre-forward. Matthijs de Ligt is closing in on a move to help strengthen the backline.

Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee has been heavily linked as the favoured option to provide competition and support for Rasmus Højlund up front.

Fabrizio Romano recently explained that the Reds had everything ready to complete a deal, with the 23-year-old being available for a £34 million release clause, but explained that the club were having final conversations about whether it is the right move.

Now, the Italian journalist has revealed that Ten Hag has been in ‘constant contact’ with Zirkzee and that the manager is ‘really pushing’ for the deal.

“The calls of Erik ten Hag… because in the next few days, we will talk a lot about Manchester United,” he said on his YouTube channel.

“I told you that the contacts for Matthijs de Ligt continue, the deal is on, talks are ongoing, so Matthijs de Ligt deal is absolutely on.

“But also, Erik ten Hag has been on the phone in recent weeks with several players who could be opportunities for Manchester United. With De Ligt, the relationship is excellent, but also with Joshua Zirkzee.

“We can confirm that the contacts between Ten Hag and Zirkzee in the recent weeks have been constant. Erik ten Hag is really pushing, he wanted to speak directly to the player, and is convinced that Zirkzee could be an option for Manchester United.

“So we will keep you posted on the details of this story, but remember again that for De Ligt they are pushing and the relationship with Ten Hag is a crucial point.

“But also that Ten Hag is calling Joshua Zirkzee, who is still an important target for the summer transfer window for Manchester United.”
