Erik ten Hag confirms three Man United injured players could return vs Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that some injured players are ‘hopeful’ that they can return for the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Red Devils were victorious in their FA Cup third-round clash against Wigan Athletic on Monday evening.
Ten Hag’s side won 2-0 on the night, but it should’ve been five or six with the amount of chances gifted to the away side.
Following the full-time whistle, Ten Hag told the media that the unavailable trio of Christian Eriksen, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire could be in contention for United’s next clash.
“Some players are hopeful that they can be back for the weekend [against Spurs],” he said. “Christian Eriksen, potentially Luke Shaw. Harry [Maguire] maybe. Mason [Mount] needs some days or a week more…”
Eriksen pulled out of the FA Cup game through an illness whilst Shaw and Maguire have been out for several weeks.
United will need to be much more clinical in front of goal against Spurs, however, after the likes of Scott McTominay, Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford missing golden chances in the game against Wigan.
“The FA Cup is all about winning, it is knockout. You want to finish the job. That is what I said in the dressing room ‘job done’…” added Ten Hag.
“Oh, definitely [we should’ve scored more]. In the first half I think we created five or six very good chances. I think it was very good football. We should have taken more, but if you don’t score you have to stay focused and I think we did that tonight.
“I don’t know [why we missed the chances]. You can’t always say why you’ve missed chances. There were some good attacks and good chances, but we didn’t take them, but the way we created them was OK.”
