Erik ten Hag addresses Marcus Rashford’s ‘malicious rumours’ social media post
Erik ten Hag has assured that Marcus Rashford is ‘very committed’ to Manchester United following rumours after his absence from the team last time out.
Rashford, 26, was criticised by his manager for going out to a nightclub on the night that United lost 3-0 against Manchester City. However, Ten Hag assured that the matter was dealt with after the English international apoligised.
Since then, Rashford has received criticism from areas within the media and there have even been suggestions about his commitment to the Old Trafford club.
United’s no.10 was unavailable against Fulham through injury and that brought even more speculation around his situation.
He provided a response to some of those speculations on social media on Monday, however, as he responded to a video title from The United Stand’s YouTube channel, titled ‘Rashford’s future in doubt?’.
The United forward posted a reply on X, formally known as Twitter, saying: “Please STOP spreading malicious rumours.”
Ahead of the away clash against Copenhagen in the Champions League, these comments were brought up to Erik ten Hag as the media asked if the manager saw a player determined to refind his form of last season, where he bagged 30 goals.
“Marcus is very committed to Manchester United, to this team, and he is investing real hard work in training to get back to his form,” said Ten Hag. “Rashy missed one game out, but it was a small knock and he is back.”
Then asked about how ready the 26-year-old is to play after coming back from that knock, Ten Hag replied: “100 per cent [ready].”
Rashford is not the only underperforming winger for United this season. Antony, on the other flank, is without a goal or assist so far this term.
The Brazilian received criticism from the travelling fans at Craven Cottage on the weekend after a poor performance. But the manager believes that he can find form after an inturpted beginning to the season.
“Last week I make that remark on him, so he was out for a couple of weeks and that broke the rhythm.
“I think he had a very good pre-season when he scored I think twice in the pre-season. Then he had a break and now he has to get himself back in form. It is hard work and it will come.”
Antony was unavailable for selection for a month as he was dealing with accusations of domestic assault from his ex-girlfriend.
