Manchester United are eyeing a potential England star in the next transfer window after Thomas Tuchel was left impressed by his talents.
Manchester United were busy in the summer transfer window, bringing in four marquee signings as part of a major squad rebuild.
Ruben Amorim bolstered his team with the additions of goalkeeper Senne Lammens, Bryan Mbeumo, forwards Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško, along with highly rated full-back Diego Leon. The five arrivals came at a combined cost of roughly £215 million.
At the same time, departures played a significant role in reshaping the squad, with several players moving on; three of them confirmed on deadline day.
High-profile exits included Jadon Sancho, Antony, Rasmus Højlund, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, who left either on permanent deals or temporary loans.
England star ‘on United’s transfer radar’ for January window
It is clear that United’s biggest transfer priority for the next windows is the midfield, and with potential departures next summer, the Reds need at least two additions in the engine room in the next two windows.
According to the latest reports from the Daily Mirror, one of the options being considered is Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest.
Anderson has stood out since his move to the City Ground and earned his first England call-up earlier this month. United have been looking for an energetic option and he ticks that box.
Reports from TeamTalk have claimed that United have hopes of landing the signing of Anderson in the January window although Forest’s stance could make life difficult for the Reds.
After his England debut at the beginning of September, Anderson received huge praise from the national team boss Thomas Tuchel. “He’s just a very, very good football player,” the German manager said.
“He has the physicality, he’s very mobile at No 6. He has the body, he loves to defend, he loves to put his body inside to duels. He loves passing, he loves to break the lines, he’s very mobile in this game. It was a pleasure to see.”
Two midfielders are needed
Carlos Baleba is the number one priority for United in midfield but he might not be able to join the club until next summer, and even then, there will be competition for his signature.
Securing signings in January has never been easy for United but it would be very smart if they were able to bring in a solid midfield option.
It would leave less pressure on the board to sign two top midfielders in the same window next summer.
Anderson certainly looks like the right kind of player, who’d be able to fit in Amorim’s system or any other managers. Whether or not the Reds can convince Forest of making a deal remains to be seen.
