“Elite mentality…” – Man United fans notice Kobbie Mainoo moment after Liverpool draw
Kobbie Mainoo scored a wondergoal during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Mainoo, 18, was unfortunate not to see the strike win United the game. It was yet another late penalty that Erik ten Hag’s side gave away late on in the game.
After a difficult first half individually, Mainoo picked up his levels in the second half and was a key part of the comeback for United.
The spin and shot were reminiscent of Federico Macheda’s iconic strike against Aston Villa.
Yet, when Mainoo surprisingly addressed the media after the game, he made it clear that he was unhappy with the result despite his goal.
“Disappointed, to be honest,” Mainoo told Sky Sports. “Because I feel like the second half, we performed really well. I feel like we picked it up, and the lads worked really, really hard.
“It was just minor little mistakes, but really they’re major, and I think if we just ironed them out, we win the game.”
Asked about scoring his first goal at Old Trafford, Mainoo added: “Yeah, I mean, of course, it’s an unbelievable feeling, first professional Old Trafford goal, and to do it in this fixture is also amazing, but as I say, at the end of the day, you don’t walk away with three points, so I can’t be too happy.
“I feel like it’s just little mistakes on the ball, off the ball, you know, but I mean, they’re happening [too much in] games, but sometimes they can just be detrimental, and I feel like that’s what’s cost us.”
The teenager’s comments were yet another example of his incredible mindset and United supporters were pleased with them.
“The standards are high, he knows that !! Respect!” One supporter said.
Another commented: “He really is a breath of fresh air in this United squad”
“Elite mentality, protect him at all costs.” a third added.
