Diogo Dalot won the Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year award for the 2023/24 campaign after an impressive season at Old Trafford.

Last season, Dalot played 50 games across all competitions and was one of the few players not significantly impacted by injury, a notable feat in a season when Old Trafford saw over 60 instances of player absences.

Additionally, he scored three goals and provided five assists, solidifying his abilities in both the right and left full-back positions at United.

The Portuguese defender excelled once again in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. He created the opening goal for Alejandro Garnacho with an excellent long pass in behind the City defence.

It has been a long road to being a consistent player at United for Dalot, who was once questioned and considered injury-prone.

Fortunately, he has turned that around and is now considered one of the most important players on the United team. He has had help from some legendary names over the years.

A new report from The Athletic explains how Paolo Maldini, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Jose Mourinho all had key roles in helping the young Portuguese fullback—not a bad list.

It was stated that Dalot regularly spoke to Maldini, who was AC Milan’s technical director while the player was on loan in Italy, and the legendary defender’s advice included being more patient on and off the pitch and more vocal during matches.

Meanwhile, Dalot’s admiration for Ronaldo is well-known. The report explained that the 25-year-old considers every conversation with the former Real Madrid forward an education and a chance to draw on his knowledge.

Jose Mourinho also brought Dalot to Old Trafford in the first place and provided him with a glowing reference that boosted the youngster’s confidence, even during difficult times.

The aforementioned report explained that Dalot believes Mourinho can make you feel like the best or worst player in the world if he wants.
