Diogo Dalot has made his intentions known after links to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid emerged.
Diogo Dalot has been a cemented starter at Manchester United since Erik ten Hag arrived at the club, evolving into a senior player at the club and often regarded as a player of leadership.
The Portugal international has played every minute for United since the 15th of December, including Michael Carrick’s impressive two wins against Arsenal and Man City since her took charge for the remainder of the season.
However, injuries to Dani Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold have meant that Real Madrid have been searching for a reliable recruit to add some stability to their back line, with Dalot emerging as a potential option.
The fullback has reacted to the links to the Benabeu, making his intentions known, as questions grow over his long-term future.
Dalot responds to Madrid links
According to TeamTalk, Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is satisfied with Dalot at the club, and the fullback’s camp has approached United over a new contract.
Dalot’s current contract expires in 2028, with the option for an additional year. The 26-year-old signed from Porto in 2018 under fellow Portuguese, Jose Mourinho, from Porto.
Dalot remains committed to United despite Real Madrid’s approach, and the fullback will continue to be imperative to United’s success, offering versatility to the squad.
Whilst his versatility is an admirable trait for Madrid, United would be in desperate need of depth on a long-term basis if they do secure Champions League football this season.
Furthermore, the competition against Alexander-Arnold would not guarantee the same number of minutes which Dalot consistently plays in the Premier League.
Dalot is crucial to United
United’s transfer priorities should be fixed on the midfield, as Casemiro’s confirmed exit, alongside Manuel Ugarte’s potential departure, leaves a giant hole in United’s squad which must be prioritised.
The right back depth of Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui is suitable for United as they continue pursuing Champions League football, and with Dalot being the younger of the two, it is probable that he is more suited to be the clubs long term option.

United’s next challenge comes in the form of Fulham, who are in fine form and have their eyes on European football as well.
With Mazraoui only coming on in the 88th minute against Arsenal since his return from AFCON, fans can expect to see Dalot starting once again.
