Manchester United secured the signing of Diego Leon for the upcoming summer transfer window and his ex-manager has told fans what they can expect from him.

Paraguayan prospect Diego Leon has been closely monitored by Manchester United in recent months as a player for the future at Old Trafford.

The Reds have now secured a deal to sign the 17-year-old next summer once he turns 18, with an initial fee of £3.1 million, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The talented teenage left-back, who has been shining at Cerro Porteño, is expected to be a future contender for the left wing-back role in Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Leon had also attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Premier League rivals Arsenal, before choosing United.

This is the latest signing which showcases the new approach under INEOS, with a focus on bringing in low-cost stars with big potential.

Chido Obi-Martin and Sekou Kone were signed in the summer and both have huge potential to be first-team players at Old Trafford in the future.

Fans are now eager to see what Leon has to offer. He made 19 appearances for Cerro Porteño in 2024 and scored twice in those games.

León made his first team debut in August under former Cerro Porteño boss Manolo Jiménez, who departed the Paraguayan club in the following month.

He has since spoken on the youngster’s move to United and told supporters what they can expect from the talented left-back.

“Manchester United have seen in him what I saw, what my teammates saw, I am honestly very happy that this signing can be completed,” Jiménez said, as per Sport Witness.

I hope everything goes well for him in everything that comes.

“He’s a prototype of a full-back in many attacking conditions, with his age, he still has time to improve in his defensive aspect, which is what he has to grow.

“Surely in Manchester they will give him the right job so that he can develop.

“The day he’s clear about his decision-making, he will be a great player and won’t make mistakes that can’t be criticised but are typical for his age and his inexperience.”
