A transfer decision has now been confirmed that gives one Manchester United star a tough setback as Ruben Amorim searches for a solution.
Manchester United are set for a significant squad overhaul this summer after enduring one of their most underwhelming seasons in recent history.
With no European football on the horizon, Ruben Amorim will have a transfer budget of around £100 million, with any further investment depending largely on funds raised through player sales.
Several exits are anticipated, including players who spent time out on loan last season, such as Marcus Rashford, Tyrell Malacia and Antony.
There are struggles finding suitors for some of these players, however, and one decision has now finally been made official.
United star receives tough transfer blow as decision confirmed
Malacia, 25, spent the second half of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven after he returned from a long-term knee injury.
Under Amorim, It quickly became clear after just a few appearances that Malacia wouldn’t be getting the regular playing time he needed following his extended injury absence.
Consequently, United signed 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu and sent Malacia on a six-month loan back to the Netherlands, where he played a role in PSV’s Eredivisie title-winning campaign.
But the United defender couldn’t break into the Dutch side on a consistent basis last term, with PSV’s full-backs being some of their brighter performers. He started just six games.
It has now finally been confirmed by PSV that they will not activate the £9 million option to sign Malacia permanently. “Thank you and best of luck in the future, Tyrell,” they wrote on X.
That means Malacia is set to return to United ahead of pre-season and the Reds will need to try and find another destination for him this summer.
United struggling to find suitors for Malacia
The fact that PSV opted against signing Malacia is a blow for the player, who is desperate to get back to playing regular football.
That won’t be happening at Old Trafford and so the search for another club goes on, but United are finding it hard to identify interested clubs.
A recent report from The Athletic stated that Amorim’s side are ‘struggling to drum up suitors’ for the Dutch fullback, which is slightly surprising.
While Malacia does have a dodgy injury history, he is fully recovered and a decent top level fullback. He is also on low wages at Old Trafford.
There have been no reports on where Malacia could end up, but you’d imagine that at least one club will register interest soon now it is confirmed he isn’t joining PSV.
