Matthijs de Ligt and Manchester United star Diogo Dalot have agreed on a key part of Erik ten Hag’s managerial. philosophy with the centre-back linked to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag and Matthijs de Ligt have a well-crafted history together after they both made names for themselves while at Ajax during eh 2018/19 season.

Manchester United hired Ten Hag following his impressive run in the Champions League that season, as well as the three league titles in a row that Ten Hag managed the club to, but De Ligt also benefited greatly from their time together.

The now 24-year-old was captain of Ten Hag’s Ajax team during 2018/19, during which time they began an extraordinary Champions League run, defeating Juventus, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich before ultimately falling in the semi-finals against Tottenham Hotspur.

De Ligt then earned a £67 million transfer to Juventus that summer, with many expecting great things from the centre-back.

Although he has not quite kicked on as many had hoped, the talent is certainly there, and if recent reports are to be believed, he may be signing for the Red Devils this transfer window.

De Ligt has always been ready to praise Ten Hag and is often quick to point out how focused the Dutch manager is on the details.

“He is someone who loves his job, and he loves to work,” De Ligt said after Ten Hag was confirmed as the club’s new manager in 2022.

“He wants to do everything to make his team play better. He’s really into the details. This makes him a really good trainer who improves players. He has a lot of qualities to succeed and we will have to see how he goes.”

United star Diogo Dalot agrees with this notion. Last season, Dalot cemented himself as one of Ten Hag’s most important players and explained that the 54-year-old gives him confidence.

“He’s been having a really good impact on my career, especially since he came in, he gives me a lot of confidence,” Dalot told club media last season.

“The way that he wants to play suits the way that I want to play football, as well, and it’s been a pleasure to work with him. He is a very demanding manager.

“He pays attention to the details, and I like that. It’s been a joy to play and be coached by him.”
