David Ornstein says “big news” coming out of Manchester United may see Rúben Amorim sell six major stars this summer

Transfer expert David Ornstein has explained that “big news” coming out of Manchester United may see Rúben Amorim sell six players from his squad this summer.

Manchester United’s ongoing struggle to find a consistent source of goals remains a major issue as they look ahead to the summer.

Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have been the club’s only reliable goal-scorers in recent years, with Rashford netting 30 times during the 2022/23 season.

However, with Rashford expected to depart after his loan spell at Aston Villa and Fernandes now playing in a deeper role under Rúben Amorim, the attacking options look increasingly limited.

Rasmus Højlund has shown glimpses of real talent but is still developing and may not be ready to lead the line alone. Joshua Zirkzee, meanwhile, appears more comfortable in a supporting role rather than acting as the focal point of the attack.

As the transfer window approaches, United is actively seeking reinforcements—Victor Osimhen, Liam Delap, and Benjamin Sesko are reportedly among the club’s top targets.

“Big news” may see United sell six players

Amid United’s need for several new signings this summer, transfer expert David Ornstein has said the “big news” that André Onana was dropped for Amorim’s 4-1 loss against Newcastle on Sunday afternoon adds further transfer pressure.

Speaking to NBC Sports about the fact United may need to add a goalkeeper to their summer transfer list as well as a striker and amid multiple reports of United looking at midfield reinforcement, Ornstein named six major players that may depart Old Trafford in the coming months.

United are looking at the likes of Liam Delap at Ipswich Town and of Benjamin Sesko at RB Leipzig; those sorts of signings will necessitate a lot of players leaving,” Ornstein explained.

“So we’re talking the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, maybe Casemiro, Alejandro Garnacho, and maybe even Kobbie Mainoo.

“It’s going to be a very interesting summer of potential outgoings at Old Trafford to fund further incomings, the likes that we’ve just talked about there in terms of a striker and other positions. Could they be adding a goalkeeper to that list? We’ll have to wait and see. This is big news on Andre Onana.”

United hoping to raise £200m this summer

This comes after reports on Saturday evening broke that United are hoping to raise as much as £200 million this summer.

Four senior players are currently on loan from United, and all are expected to leave permanently. As mentioned above, Rashford is at Villa, with Tyrell Malacia with PSV Eindhoven, Antony at Real Betis, and Jadon Sancho at Chelsea.

United are said to be seeking £10 million for Malacia and £30 million for Antony. If their loan clubs don’t accept the proposed terms, Rashford is valued at £50 million and Sancho at £30 million.

Chelsea has an obligation to buy Sancho for £25 million but can back out by paying a £5 million penalty, while Villa have a £40 million option for Rashford.

Onana could also depart after attracting interest following a poor display against Lyon. United reportedly value him at £20 million, with Saudi Pro League clubs expected to show interest. Casemiro is also valued at £20 million.

Napoli are said to remain keen on Alejandro Garnacho, having previously failed to meet United’s £60 million valuation in January. The Serie A side may return with a summer offer, but United now value the winger at around £50 million.
