David Ornstein has revealed the likely destination for Jadon Sancho next season with a return to Manchester United out of question.
Manchester United loaned Jadon Sancho to Chelsea at the start of last season, with the London club initially agreeing to a £25 million obligation to make the deal permanent.
Sancho had been frozen out by Erik ten Hag after publicly accusing the United boss of scapegoating him. Following the fallout, the winger was excluded from the first-team setup and only featured in pre-season matches before sealing a temporary switch to Stamford Bridge.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Chelsea had the option to walk away from the deal by paying a £5 million penalty to United.
It was confirmed by David Ornstein earlier this week that Sancho will not be joining Chelsea permanently. Talks broke down after both parties failed to agree on personal terms.
Ornstein reveals likely Sancho destination
Ornstein has now provided some more information on Sancho’s situation on The Athletic’s YouTube channel (6:13) this week.
Reports have suggested that Sancho and his agents are considering his different options and Ornstein has suggested that it is ‘more likely’ that he moves abroad rather than stays in the Premier League.
The esteemed journalist also stated that his exit would have a ‘massive impact’ on the PSR situation at Old Trafford due to his huge wages being taken off the books.
“The expectation I have is that United will strike a deal with another club,” Ornstein said. “Sancho is assessing his options now, whether it will be in England or perhaps more likely overseas to continue his career elsewhere.
“It is a topic that United need to address with urgency because they see him as somebody who they can raise some cash for. Of course shifting his salary off their wage bill if they can would have a massive impact on their PSR compliance.
“It is essentially the reason why Chelsea have not been able to sign him because he was earning too much money at Manchester United for the Chelsea wage bill.”
Sancho’s transfer saga will drag on
United are on the verge of completing a deal for Bryan Mbeumo and alongside Matheus Cunha, he is expected to improve Amorim’s underperforming attack.
However, after that gets over the line, the attention for those at Old Trafford will immediately turn to sales as they cannot complete any more signings without some exits occurring.
Sancho’s departure feels like it will be difficult though, unless he is open to a Saudi Pro League move, and it seems like something that will drag on throughout the window.
Someone like Alejandro Garnacho is likely to be easier to sell and generate funds for United to sign more players for Amorim’s squad. Although, like Ornstein suggested, getting the wages of Sancho off the books could end up being huge for United.
