David Ornstein has provided the latest linking Paul Pogba with a return to Manchester United after claims were made surrounding a potential reunion.
Paul Pogba was handed an 18-month ban from football after testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone while at Juventus in August 2023.
The French midfielder had rejoined the Italian club in the summer of 2022 following his departure from Manchester United, but his second spell in Turin was marred by injuries and lack of form. Just as he struggled to find momentum, the doping case surfaced.
Initially facing a four-year suspension, Pogba saw his ban reduced to 18 months after the Court of Arbitration for Sport accepted that the substance was ingested unintentionally.
That ban officially ended on 11 March, and Pogba has since parted ways with Juventus, with his departure and status as a free agent sparking rumours of a possible return to Old Trafford.
Ornstein provides Pogba transfer truth
United have been urged to resign Pogba for a third time this summer by several notable players, with former striker Louis Saha stating he felt that the 32-year-old would be a player who could “exite” United fans if he played alongside Amad.
However, despite many fans also pleading the club to consider his free transfer, transfer specialist David Ornstein has shut down the rumours.
Speaking as part of a Q&A session with The Athletic, Ornstein was asked if there was any truth to the rumours that Pogba was “under consideration” at Old Trafford as a potential free signing.
He replied that the potential move “is not on either party’s agenda. He continues to train ahead of joining a club this summer.”
Ornstein continued, explaining that there is “Plenty of interest” in the Frenchman, but he is “not aware of a firm decision being taken” as of yet.
United must move on from Pogba
All the noise and reports that have come out of the club in the last year show that United want to move on from their mistakes in the past and switch to a new path and a new future – and they must ignore the idea of bringing Pogba back to United to do so.
While the free transfer would no doubt represent a good value for money signing, United must look to sign other midfielders who fit the mould of what Rúben Amorim wants to create at the club.
As for who they should sign to replace departing midfielder Christian Eriksen, one option that should be considered is Morgan Gibbs-White.
The Nottingham Forest midfielder has been exceptional this season and has previously been compared to current United captain Bruno Fernandes. At 25, with a reported transfer price of around £50 million, it is a signing that United must consider this summer.
