“Keep an eye…” David Ornstein names 11 Manchester United stars who could leave this summer

Amid a possible summer exodus at Old Trafford, transfer specialist David Ornstein has named 11 players who could feasibly depart Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United squad this summer.

As Manchester United turn their attention to the summer transfer window, Rúben Amorim faces the challenge of addressing multiple gaps in his squad.

Reports have indicated that the club is planning to offload up to 10 senior players, including Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Casemiro, in order to raise funds for new acquisitions.

With the money generated, the club is reportedly looking to sign a new striker, a deep-lying midfielder, an attacking midfielder, a left wing-back, and a goalkeeper, with a centre-back also on their wishlist.

However, due to financial constraints, it is expected that United will prioritise smart, value-for-money signings rather than pursuing high-profile players at substantial costs.

Ornstein delivers latest on United transfer exodus

While fans are excited to see which players United will look to recruit to aid Amorim this summer, there is almost just as much noise surrounding who could be axed, with rumours swirling around those such as Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro.

David Ornstein, transfer specialist, had weighed in on the scenario during a Q&A session with The Athletic on Thursday afternoon.

Asked how many players may leave Old Trafford this summer and if there are any probable candidates, Ornstein explained it was hard to give a precise number, but he did list 11 players who may leave depending on the club’s circumstances.

“Impossible to put numbers on these things, but the candidates are obvious,” Ornstein started. “[Christian] Eriksen, [Jonny] Evans, [Tom] Heaton and [Victor] Lindelöf are all out of contract this summer, so you’d expect some or all of them to go.

“Antony, Malacia, Rashford and [Jadon] Sancho are out on loan, so they are clearly players United are prepared to part with, too.

“Another example is Casemiro, and then we need to keep an eye on the likes of Mainoo and [Alejandro] Garnacho, who we’ve reported on previously.

“They’re players I don’t think United actively want out, but if suitable offers arrive and the club decides to entertain them from a football and financial perspective, there could be movement there. Inevitabl,y some younger guys will move on as well. So, a busy summer ahead at Old Trafford!”

What is the latest on Mainoo’s United situation

It is rather alarming to hear that Mainoo is a potential candidate to depart Old Trafford this summer, considering the immense potential the 19-year-old midfielder possesses.

Mainoo is reportedly seeking a wage of £150,000 a week, a figure that exceeds what United are willing to offer. As negotiations continue, the club is facing pressure to reach a compromise. If no agreement is reached by the summer, United may consider selling the midfielder, with a potential asking price of £70 million if they determine he’s not part of Rúben Amorim’s long-term plans.

Despite the ongoing wage dispute, there have been some positive developments. Recent reports indicate that both Mainoo’s representatives and United’s management are seeing progress in their discussions.

Although his camp was initially unhappy with leaks about his potential salary, both parties are now more optimistic about finding common ground.

The club’s confidence in reaching a resolution has grown as communication remains steady. Sources suggest that both sides are satisfied with the direction the talks are taking, and the possibility of a new contract remains open. The situation is far from resolved, but the ongoing dialogue offers hope for a successful outcome.

While there’s still uncertainty surrounding his future, the latest updates suggest that a potential exit from Old Trafford is not as imminent as it once seemed. The next few months will be crucial as the club and Mainoo’s camp continue to work towards an agreement.
