David de Gea will reject an incoming offer from Saudi Arabia with the Manchester United goalkeeper expecting a new contract at Old Trafford.

De Gea, 32, joined United in 2011 and is now their longest serving player after Phil Jones’ departure from the club.

The shot-stopper’s current deal runs out at the end of June but he has agreed to an extension on lower wages. That still needs to be signed off by the club hierarchy, however.

Reports from Wednesday afternoon emerged from Alex Crook of talkSPORT on the United goalkeeper’s future.

It was said that a ‘lucrative’ offer for the Spaniard will be coming in from Saudi Arabia, but that he is ready to snub it in order to remain at United.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia have been attempting to lure players away from Europe with extraordinary contract offers – Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr following his contract termination at Old Trafford and is earning £3.4 million per week.

However, De Gea is not interested in the deal even though he is agreeing to slash his wages at United. The aforementioned report adds that the goalkeeper has even decided that he wants to remain at the Manchester-based club for at least two more years despite having no assurances over being the club’s no.1.

Speaking to The Times last month, Ten Hag admitted that De Gea does not have certainties over his position in the starting XI, saying: “Yes [he will remain at the club], but I will not say he’ll always be my No.1 because in a club like Man United there must be competition in all positions.”

De Gea’s impending contract extension is something that some fans believe should be avoided, although United coach Benni McCarthy has come to the defence of the shot-stopper. Diogo Costa is seen as a goalkeeper who The Reds should strive to sign and reports suggest that the club could move in for Porto’s no.1 if United’s goalkeeper leaves the club.

The 32-year-old has been at Old Trafford for over a decade and made 545 appearances for the side; and has kept a club-record 190 clean sheets.
